Stay hydrated with this quick and refreshing infused water. It's a healthy summertime thirst-quencher that provides endless health benefits and is more fun than plain ol' water!

two mason jars with cucumber lemon ginger water.

It's time to jazz up your daily water intake! Of course, infused water (also known as "detox water or "spa water") is often recommended for weight loss and diet plans, but that's not what I'm here for.

I want things that taste good and offer some form of nutrition, like this oat milk smoothie. And by simply slicing up lemon, cucumber, and ginger, and adding it to water, we make a revitalizing and healthy summery drink that helps us stay hydrated and tastes amazing.

⭐️ Why This Recipe is the Best

    • Bright, citrusy, slightly sweet, with a subtle gingery kick
    • Hydrating, revitalizing, refreshing
    • Super quick and easy
    • A healthy (sugar-free) non-alcoholic beverage with nutritional benefits
    • Fun and delicious option for brunch, potlucks, or festive gatherings

    🥒 Ingredient Notes

ingredients on a wooden cutting board.
    • Lemon - I love the bright, tangy, citrus flavor of lemons. And as this article from Cleveland Clinic states, the natural acidity in lemons aids in digestion, as it helps to break down food. They're also a great source of vitamin C, which protects us from cell damage and keeps our immune system functioning well.
    • Cucumber - Did you know that cucumbers are technically fruit?? (*head exploding emoji) Besides tasting delicious and fresh, they provide water-soluble fiber, which aids in hydration. They're also packed with nutrients like vitamin K, potassium, and magnesium, as well as antioxidants. Try them in creamy cucumber avocado gazpacho and apple cucumber salad.
    • Fresh ginger - Gives our refreshing water a slightly spicy zip. Used in Eastern medicine practices since the 9th century, ginger is best known for aiding digestion and reducing nausea , but it's also anti-inflammatory and helps to regulate our blood sugar levels. It's also full of nutrients like vitamin C, magnesium, and potassium. Use it to make roasted butternut squash carrot ginger soup.

    🌿 Variations and Substitutions

    • Add mint. Rip up a handful of fresh mint for a minty-flavored beverage.
    • Make with sparkling water. Who doesn't love bubbles?? For a more festive preparation, use sparkling water (and try my pink grapefruit vodka cocktail with rosemary when you want something boozy).
    • Add turmeric. For even more health benefits (and beautiful color), add a pinch of turmeric before serving.
    • Add maple syrup. This recipe has sweet notes without any added sugar, but if you want to make it a touch sweeter, add 1 or 2 teaspoons of maple syrup (or see my list of recommended maple syrup substitutes) to make it more of a funky lemonade.
    • Add vodka. Take it up a notch by adding 1 ounce of vodka to each glass before serving.
spoon stirring jar of water with sliced lemons and cucumber.

    🥄 How To Make It

*See recipe card below for printable instructions.

Place sliced lemon, cucumber, and ginger in a large pitcher and add 8 cups of cold water (or distribute evenly among 8 glasses).

Let the water sit at room temperature for about 1 hour to let the flavor develop. Serve with or without ice cubes.

    👩🏼‍🍳 Expert Tips

    • Storage: Keep chilled in the refrigerator for up to 2 days.
    • Make it last longer: Strain water after 12 hours to remove lemon, cucumber, and ginger, and store in the refrigerator for up to 4 days. This prevents the lemon from developing a bitter taste.
    • Store ginger in the freezer. This extends the shelf-life by quite a bit. I like to peel and cut them into 1-inch pieces before placing into a freezer-safe bag. When you need a piece of ginger, pull one out and thaw it at room temperature for about 30 minutes.
    • Infuse at room temperature. Be sure to let the flavors marinate at room temperature for around 1 hour before serving/chilling. This allows the flavors to really develop.
    • Make it by the glass. Place 2 slices of lemon, 2 slices of ginger, and 2 slices of cucumber into a mason jar or large glass. Fill with cold water and let it sit at room temperature for 1 hour.
three jars of infused water on a wooden table.
